What the Move Score measures
The Move Score is a normalized 0–100 indicator summarizing affordability, opportunity, quality of life, and climate. It is not a prediction, but a compact way to compare many signals at once.
Affordability
- Overall cost of living index
- Housing cost index
- Property tax rate proxy
Opportunity
- Median household income
- Job growth (YoY)
Quality & climate
- Crime (lower is better)
- Health & education proxies
- Avg temp & sunny days
Weighting philosophy
People value categories differently. Our default weights reflect common priorities when relocating. Lower‑is‑better metrics (e.g., cost, crime, taxes) are inverted before weighting. Scores are then mapped through a logistic curve for a stable 0–100 range.
- Affordability carries more weight than climate.
- Opportunity (income, jobs) matters for long‑term stability.
- Quality (safety, health, education) has balanced weight.
Planned feature: custom weight sliders so you can make safety or taxes count more for your situation.
Limitations & data posture
- Numbers in this demo are illustrative proxies for UI/UX evaluation.
- True relocation decisions should use official sources (Census, BLS, FBI, state portals) and local quotes.
- Indices compress nuance. Always review neighborhood‑level details.
Roadmap
- Custom weights per category
- Metro vs. statewide toggles
- Saved comparisons & sharable links
- Source citations per metric when real feeds are added
Moving States Comparison Tool helps you compare two U.S. states in seconds using a single, understandable Move Score. It’s built for clarity and speed.
Methodology
We normalize each metric (e.g., cost, income, crime) across all 50 states using z‑scores, invert where lower is better (cost, crime, taxes), then apply weights to reflect real‑world importance. The weighted total is passed through a logistic function to map into a 0–100 score.
- Cost of Living & Housing: Lower is better (negative weights)
- Income, Jobs, Health, Education: Higher is better (positive weights)
- Taxes & Crime: Lower is better (negative weights)
- Weather & Sunshine: Small positive weights for livability
Important disclaimer
Metrics in this demo are illustrative proxies. Always validate with official sources (BLS, FBI, Census, state sites) before deciding. This site does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice.
Who we are
Independent software creators building useful comparison tools. Contact us at everydayroyalties@gmail.com.
Who this is for
- People deciding between multiple states for work, family, or lifestyle.
- Renters and buyers who need quick guardrails before deep dives.
- Remote workers balancing taxes, internet, and time‑zone overlap.
How we keep it fair
- Normalized metrics: each metric is scaled so categories compare fairly.
- Lower‑is‑better handling: costs, crime, and taxes are inverted correctly.
- No pay‑to‑play: states can’t “buy” a better score.
What’s coming next

Our Purpose
We build fast, clean, and helpful online tools designed to empower everyday people. Our mission is to save time, boost productivity, and make complex tasks simple.
What Makes Us Different
- Fast-loading tools with simple UI
- No signup required
- Helpful, real‑world use cases
- Designed for students, workers, and families
Our Vision
We believe useful software should be easy for everyone to access and understand — no clutter, no friction, just value.
Our Story
Everyday Royalties started as a simple goal: remove friction from everyday decisions with tools that feel instant and trustworthy. From GPA tweaks to timesheets and taxes, we ship small, useful wins––and we ship them fast.
Core Values
- Usefulness first: If it doesn’t help real people, it doesn’t ship.
- Clarity over clutter: Plain language, clean UI, no dark patterns.
- Speed as a feature: Tools should load fast and work offline when possible.
- Respect for privacy: Inputs stay in your browser; we don’t sell personal data.
What We’re Building Next
- Deeper “how it works” explainers on every tool
- Export options (CSV/print) across more calculators
- Accessibility passes for keyboard and screen readers
- Localization for top languages by demand
Accuracy & Methodology
We validate formulas against public references and real‑world examples. For finance and payroll tools, we follow widely used conventions (e.g., 1.5× overtime defaults) and cite assumptions in the page notes.
Performance & Accessibility
- Mobile‑first layouts tested on small screens
- Readable contrast and scalable font sizes
- Semantic headings for assistive tech
- Minimal scripts to reduce jank and data usage
Trust & Advertising
We support the site with privacy‑friendly ads. Ads never block core features. If you spot anything intrusive, please tell us — we’ll fix it.
